Default Back from the 'stan

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I recently redeployed from Afghanistan and got my bike ('06 RKC) out of storage. It was started and ridden every now and again and was on a battery tender when not being ridden, but hasn't been regularly ridden since Dec '08. Aside from changing the oil is there anything else, specifically, I should inspect to ensure it's mechanically sound and ready for some rides for the upcoming season?

Rich

Thumbs up

Glad you are back and able to ride, and that you for your service to our country! :-)

Check your tires - air pressure and for cracks for sitting so long.

Oil change like you said, and you should be really good to go.

Change all fluids, check, even better change tires. make sure the loose nut on the handle bars doesn't get looser. Thank you for your service and welcome home.

Again, THANK YOU for your service! Pull the fluids out and put in fresh and you should be good to go. After checking the air pressure, might want to make sure lights and brake switches are all in working order as well. Let it warm up to the point of the rocker boxes are getting warm before riding. If the bike is running good then the fuel might be able to be run if there was stabilizer dumped in during storage. If not drain fuel and replace with fresh.

Thanks for your service. Check the tires & get on & ride it, the oil should have been changed before you stored it to get rid of the acids in it, & hopefully when it was ridden while you were gone they rode it long enough to get it fully warmed up. The best way to store for extended periods is to change all fluids prior to storage. Thanks again & have a great ride.

wow, welcome home. sure hope you didn't spend that whole 2 years over there! from this retired sm, thanks for your service.

one suggestion that you haven't got (and they've all been good, btw) is to ride that bike down to your local hd and put it and some of that deployment money on to a se bike.. you deserve it!
