Cam plate question

Cam plate question
Need to know if the Screamin Eagle cam plate is compatible with Andrews cams, or do I have to use SE cams. Am considering going to the hydraulic tensioners. And what is your experiences with the gear driven cams? Heard some complaints about gear whine. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

I can answer the second part as I just installed the gear drive. I was fortunate that gear whine wasn't an issue because "lash" between the gears was within spec ( not too tight,)and my crankshaft run-out was negligable. If properly installed there is no more bullet proof design IMO. But you have to worry about all of the above, where the HD hydraulics are much more forgiving re: tolerances.

If your crank runout changes, your system will no longer be bullet proof.
I vote for the hydraulic tensioner set-up.

Your right there...but I'm counting on the year of my bike ( 2000, ) with the hot forged crank and Timken Bearing set-up. I don't kmow how confident I'd be with the newer models re: gear drive. Good Point.

The only reason I even mentioned it was because a good friend of mine with an 05 had his crank shift during an emergency stop. Must not have pulled the clutch in? Not sure what he did wrong but after the emergency stop his motor sounded like a cement mixer. Missing teeth on the gears even. Crank went out to .0055, which ain't good even with hydraulic tensioners, but the tensioners would have at least allowed for it.
I sure wish all the bikes had the Timken set-up.

Yeah I don't want to get started on the multitude of "improvements" made by the MOCO since 2003, but I will say this: from my gear drive (S&S / Andrews,) to my charging system ( Compu Fire 3 Phase,) to my lifters ( HQ Black Ops,) more and more now I go to the aftermarket for the quality that I need to ride 15,000 to 20,000 mi /year.
