Default 1989 Electra Glide Fairing change. I want the fairing with the Radio.

Hi,
This is my 1989 Electra Glide. I would like to add the radio fairing. Is this easily possible? What years do I look for to fit. I'm I better off to sell my bike and buy one with the fairing?
Thank you for any info.

Hoppe Industries and Dragonfly make aftermarket detachable bat wing fairings with sound systems for Road Kings and Heritage Softails. It looks like your current windshield is similar enough to a Road King to make one work somehow. The big advantage of these fairings is that you can take it off if you want the wind in your face.

Only problem is this is an old FLHS with the "dashboard" on the nalice. I don't think the Dragonfly/Hoppe fairing will fit over this style gauge cluster.

some .02 ...

If it were me there would be basically 6 choices.

1. get IPOd and earbuds and ride it as is.

2. Live with the instrument POD and the windshield and get a IPOD / Speaker setup for a RK and make it work on your bike - easiest and cheapest to do.

3. Get a complete inner and outer fairing from a 88 to 95 - take off your instrument pod and build a custom bracket to hold the pod inside the fairing - that bracket is obsolete from the moco. get busy with a wiring diagram and extend the wires from the POD to reach to the location in the inner fairing and wire in a radio - some more cost and work than option 2.

4. Get an after market faring with tunes ( dragonfly, deadcenter cycles, etc. ) get a RK gas tank with instrument cluster and get good at hacking up your original wiring harness and frankenstiening it to make it work. - more money and a lot more wiring work.

5. Get a inner and outer fairing for a 96 to 11 , remove POD and wiring , get nuclear and build the wiring harness from scratch or buy a wiring harness from the latest Carbed twin cam you can find ( 00 - 06) and rewire entire bike to include gauges and radio.

6. Say screw it and either live with it or sell it and buy a glide with the wireing set up for a faring to begin with.

Just traded in my 89 for an 11 SG. On my 89 - it orignally came with a fairing, for tunes I ran a pioneer radio with IPOD, hooked up to an ARC amp and wired to 4 ARC speakers. it did kick *** and was louder and clearer than the tunes I have right now on the new SG. That will be fixed though !

Thank you everyone for the help. I think I'm going to sell.

PS. Can anyone see my pics? I can't. Even when I click on the file.

Looks like this was a Tour Glide that someone took the Frame Mounted Fairing off and tried to make a Road King type.

One thing that will work is to take the older Batwing Fairing that is made by Harley for the 1985/earlier FLHT. Then look for a Radio Caddy that was made by Ra-Cad for those years. I had a 1985 FLHT and bought the Radio Caddy for it from them. I still have the Fairing and Radio Caddy in the garage.

If it was me, I would save a ton of money and buy one of these, This is what I have on my FLHR
