Default What would Cause Handle Bar shake?

Went out for a ride yesterday afternoon. On the way home after an hour I took my hands off the bars and they started to shake almost violently. (quickly grabbed them to avoid wrecking) The bike only has 2600 miles. This was my first ride since last summer. I checked the tire pressure and it was fine. Has anyone else ever had a problem with front end shimmy?

On a side note when I warmed the bike up yesterday the handle bars themselves had alot more vibration then before. Any help or advise is appreciated.

Thanks,
Frank

Is it possible that the steering neck bearings need to be tightened up a little bit???

I would check the steering head bearing. How old is the bike? Sounds like it should still be under warranty.

Wow...2600m shouldn't be nearly enough for wheel bearing...?? Did you throw a weight?

Yeah, go get the front wheel re-balanced. You threw a weight. Its not uncommon. Easy fix - don't stress.

I wouldnt think throwing a weight would affect the shake at idle.

This has come up before and generally seems to be related to preload on the neck bearing:

As noted in this other thread, there's an HD service bulletin on the subject. My '09 Road Glide has the same issue and I have yet to deal with, so I keep my hands on the grips.

Thanks guys.
I have some searching and reading to do. Seems I am not the only one with this problem. Need to do a better search next time I have a question. found 2 pages of similar posts.
But thanks for pointing me in the right direction
