Default 88 faster then a 103 ?

I purchased an 06 s.g. a couple months back, it is an 88 c.i. And carburated. I noticed immediately it is much faster then my 09 stock dyna I traded in on it. This bike has open breather, pipes, and jetted to match. I assume any necessary down load has been done, it runs perfect. Today I rode, then raced a 2011 road glide with the 103. My 88 is much faster. Now I wonder if my bike has stage 2, (cams) or if the 103's are just slow. What's your thoughts

You outran a bagger with a dyna. Look at the weight difference. A 103 is not gonna make up for that.

If the 88 carb bike is that fast it must have the necessary down load.

I'm pretty sure my 88 with cams is faster than a stock 103.

No biggie, now do some exhaust, air and tuning on the 103 and it's a different story.

Carbed bikes dont use an ecm. So there wouldnt be a download. But as far as being faster, that is a broad statement where there are a lot of factors to consider. Like the builds, tuners, rider weight and skill.

My experience racing my '04 RK against the 96 or 103 in bikes is...anything '08 and newer with throttle by wire simply have no throttle response out of the hole..the engines don't go straight to red line, and by the time their ECM catches up the race is over...Now the '07s that still have cable throttle is a different story they will launch out of the hole!..then it comes down to rider

Plus 88" bikes are geared lower. A stock 88" will beat a stock 96 or 103 on gearing alone.

I totally disagree,I had a 01 Classic TC88, I had Carl's Speed Shop bore it to a 95, port & polish the heads, bore and polish the throttle body, cams, pcIII ETC etc.etc.etc. , the thing hauled ***, I would run away from CVO's, with my new Road Glide I had Wes at Cycle Rama install cams, air cleaner ,pipes and a race tuner , no head work , nothing else, and this bike will run away from my 01, Wes uses a race tuner because he showed me on other bikes that had Power Commanders that he can tune out any delay that TBWs have and the PC can't,he did runs with similar bike that were carbed, EFI with PC and EFI with his race tuner and the response was as good or better, morale of the story is work with someone who knows what they are doing
