Default PTT / VOX Operation Question

The wife and I really use the intercom, we're using the HD provided headsets with mic booms in open face helmets.
The VOX (Voice Activated) worked fine when I was running with the stock mufflers. After doing a stage one and changing the mufflers and trashing the cat on our 2010 Limited, we had to start using the PTT (Press To Talk) buttons because as I'd run through the gears the exhaust would activate the VOX and the exhaust noise would come through the wifes mic.
Lately I've been monitoring channel 19 on the CB, trying to listen up to the truckers to see if there are any speed traps or traffic jams out in front of us.
You have the 3 screens, music, intercom, and CB on the stereo.
I know if I'm on the CB page and press the PTT it transmits out over the CB. But, If I'm the music page, or the intercom page and I press the PTT to talk to the wife does it also transmit out over the CB?
The intercom and the PTT work for talking to the wife, but how do I know that I'm NOT transmitting out over the CB? Any ideas, suggestions?

If the CB is turned on, you're transmitting when you hit the PTT, regardless of what screen you're on.

On my '09 UC, the CB has an ON/OFF selection. I think that any time the CB is ON and you hit the PTT switch, you are transmiting, regardless of which "page" is showing on your screen. The VOX is adjustable thru the radio controls and can also be desensitized by using a thicker or more dense mic covering.

If the cb is on the only way to talk to your passenger without going thru cb output is to talk thru the vox otherwise if you press ptt button it wil transmit

I was having the same issue as the OP. I like the idea of trying a thicker foam shield on the mic. Roadhog659, where did you find a heavier cover?

Depends on what headset you have. J & M has a replacement set pictured below. Might check with IMC Moto to see what they offer.

I have tried adjusting the VOX manny times, still picks up the exhaust noise.
The dense mic covers look like the solution. Thanks

Sounds like you'll have to keep the microphone in your mouth while you're not talking

If the wind stock doesn't solve your problem consider the J&M headset. They are more noise canceling than the HD headsets.

Same here. J&M headset made a huge difference in transmitting and receiveing. Good quality stuff.
