There is a worn spot on both bags, bad enough for leather bags but could be very bad for hard bags. Is this a common problem and does it happen with hard bags? Thanks
Are you using the required 90580-09 pieces???

My personal experience is to not bother with those. I bought the kit, did one bag and didn't do the other. I ended up putting the one side I had modified back to stock. You won't be able to open the bag more than about 45* or so, and they are a pain to install if you don't have a second set of hands.

It's better to just buy the chrome or black magnetic covers for the docking points, they are smooth and don't cut into the leather when the bag lid is open fully.

As to the original question, the hard bags hinge open differently and are not in danger of contacting the docking hardware in the same manner if I remember right. I do know they give you some clear 3M film for the hard bag latches or something with the docking kits.

Hard bags open out so you won't have the same problem.

Had the same problem with the leather bags and the screw mark but I knew I was changing to the hard bags. Like the post above they open out at 3 oclock and not up to 12 on the leather....I didn't use the bumper kit either....no problems!

You're good to go with bags from 1994 all the way to 2013.
