Default Decel Popping

I like my Decel popping. I have read you can tune it out, but I like the noise. What is it and does it hurt the motor in any way.

Good question ...seems that if you rev it high the motor "cleans up" and it goes away if you've been slow cruising. Is that my imagination?

Lean. Causes your engine to run just hotter so that you are hearing detonation.

Way too lean over time, and you will melt a hole in the piston top. I found that out with a 2 stroke ATV.............Twice

A rich mixture can cause popping, too. See this thread among others:

Mine did that after I had the 103 built, and it was happening at about 1900-2100 rpm's. When I asked the tuner to fix it he was telling me that when you go into a decel, the injector now closes because there is no fuel needed, and what you hear is the popping sound of the fuel shut off, and the louder the pipe you have the more noticeable it is.
