Hasn't happened to me yet but fill it with epoxy and redrill it out. I always use a 1/4" torque wrench and stay on the low side of the range. Being plastic its bound to happen. Too bad they didn't see fit to use a brass insert.

JB Weld .... toothpick.... fill the hole. Put some Vaseline on the screw and screw it into the hole. Once the JB Weld hardens unscrew the screw.

Fixed.

Dealer sells threaded brass inserts just for this repair. I replaced all 3. Learned about it here on this forum.

Ive read where you take a piece of abs pipe (same material as the fairing) shave off some filings and mix with some acetone, this will make a glue of the same material which when hardens you can drill out and reinstall screw. Havent tried it yet but you can practice on a piece to see how it works. But seeing now they have brass inserts sounds much better to me.

Be aware that 2 of the screws are longer than the other 4. The longer ones go in the 2 bottom holes. I thought i had stripped these out too but someone here brought it to my attention. Once i used the longer screw all was good.

So how prominent is this problem? I have the HD garage door opener transmitter to install in my Road Glide Fairing, and I don't want to "open a can of worms" when I do the install. I assumed it would just be a matter of being careful removing and installing the screws since it is abs. Would it make sense to reinforce somehow on the first removal?

Just be careful when you put it back together. I turn the screws backwards until I feel the threads "pop" to make sure they are lined up.

Long screws go in the bottom.

I've gotten into that habit too. Stripped out one of the hand control screws on my Fat Bob when I had it. Didn't want to go to the trouble of replacing a part again due to my stupidity.
