Inner primary leak ?

Inner primary leak ?
I have either a mainshaft seal leak or the starter jack shaft seal leaking on the inner primary. I just went through the service manual and everything seems straight forward enough except the need for a special tool when installing the inner primary. I assume the tool is to protect the seal when sliding over the mainshaft. Any way to do without this tool? Thanks.

I never used a tool for this and have taken off and installed many a primary. You do want to be careful when putting the primary on that you do not cut the seal on the splines where the clutch goes or catching the seal on the primary bearing race on the main shaft.
What year and model bike do you have? In 2004 Harley came out with a updated primary seal.

The bike is an 02 Ultra. The inner priamry had been off a few years ago to fix a transmission mainshaft seal leak, so the innner primary seals had been replaced then. I assume they would be the updated versions.
On another note. Has anyone ever replaced the heal-toe shifter shaft bushings in the front of the inner primary? I was thinkning I might do that if I do the seals myself. They are a little sloppy. Thanks again.
