Default 03 Road King Motor MODS????

I want to get a little more HP out of my R/K. It has the Screaming Eagle UpGrade with the air cleaner and the ECU program. I was thinking of cams or maybe a Big Bore. Will a set of 96 C.I. cylinders bolt on to a 88 C.I. motor? I know I can bore my cylinders out to 96. How much of a difference would a cam change make? Thanks in Advance!!!

In order to get a 96" motor, you need your current cylinders and the 4.38" Flywheels ( '07 and later.). 96 and 88's run the same pistons. What you're asking about is the big bore 95" upgrage, 3.87" pistons vs your 3.75." ( I hope I remember my #'s!)

And yes, the biggest bang for the buck is a big bore kit with a cam upgrade IMO .

Headwork is important for serious upgraders, but the law of diminishing returns says that you'll get less and less additional power for more additional money spent.

My FLTRSEI came with a 95" Stage II motor, and the heads were dead stock right from the factory. Just pistons, cams and programming. I've been happy with it for 11 years now..

the 95" kits are still great motors. a fresh set of bigger cams along with the big bore, and you'll have a much stronger motor.

I put some HQ-0034 cams in my 04 RK this winter and I'm very happy. Now wondering what a big bore would do? Just the the cams alone are quite impressive.

103 keep the compression down, andrewes 21 cams. Best running.cool running starts without compression release. 43MPG on trip to Daytona 3800 miles.I used low octane fuel with no ping.

The best bang for the buck would be cams. Then next would be a big bore with head work. But, would not spend the money on a big bore with out doing the heads. If you compare the numbers of a 88" with a good set of cams, good exhaust and tune. To a 95" with stock heads, your not really gaining much more HP/tq for the money spent.

I have installed many Andrews 21N's with cam conversions, also 21 G's in Baggers with much success.

The 95 kit has all SE red light racing parts so its not your average 95. Its built to turn 7000 rpms and capable of running nos. I have it limited to 6500 cause i run it to the limiter often. I wouldn't recommend the 257 cams in a daily rider because you have to shift A LOT to stay in the powerband. At 3800- 4000 rpms in second gear it will break the back tire loose and scare the chit out of you if your not expecting it. Motor was built in 05 so there are better cams out there now. In normal riding situations the 06 with less hp is more pleasurable to ride and it out runs 103s on a regular basis so it has its fun factor too. Good luck with your mods.
