Default Cam recommendation for Ultra Limited (103)

OK, I think I've ready every cam thread on these boards at least twice over the past few months. I think I am more confused than when I started!

I have a 2010 FLHTK Ultra Limited with:

SE Ventilator AC
SE Street Performance pipes
Fullsac X-Pipe "B" header (stepped header, no cat)
TTS Mastertune

After putting on the Fullsac header and loading the TTS map that I got from Steve @ Fullsac the bike ran much, much better than before. I have a slight decel pop when upshifting and my mpg is not great, so I think I'm going to get it dyno tuned.

I've been thinking about doing a cam change before I do the dyno. I'm looking for this to be a reliable touring bike (I don't want it to be any more picky about fuel, don't want it to be louder, don't want more risk of pinging, and don't want worse gas milage). I would like to get a little more power in the 2,000-4,000 RPM range. I really feel like the bike has pretty decent power right now, but I don't mind spending the cash on cams if it's an easy way to get some more without any downside.

Steve at Fullsac recommended the Andrews 54H. He's done a tune of a pretty similar bike to mine and sent me a dyno chart (93hp, 100tq). He recommended them over the Woods 5-5-5 (which he seems to do a lot of on 103's and which make better numbers) because the Andrews would have better "manners" (similar to stock).

I also talked to my local dealer, and they are pushing the S&S 570 cams. On the S&S web site they list the 570 and the Andrews 54H as "comparable", though the stats seem to differ a reasonable amount. They have the attitude that they are sure they can make the 570's work for me, but they have no idea about the 54H's (which makes me reluctant to have them do the 54H's).

So I guess what I'd really like is to know if there's anyone with a stock 103" touring motor that's using either the S&S 570 or the Andrews 54H cams? Any feedback? Dyno charts? Any help would be appreciated.

Short of someone telling me they have a similar setup to one of these and love it, I may just dyno my motor as is and put off the cams until winter (if I do them at all).

I have the 54h cams. I went with them since they were cheaper, and the profile numbers seemed comparable. I also wanted a milder mannered set up for low speed manuevering two up over the 255s I had previously installed. That said, I am happy with the choice. On a WOT pull in February, my bike made 88 hp and 103 tq with the stock 09 catless headpipe and a pair of Jackpot dyno tuned slipons. I use a SEPST as well again. The power comes on around 2500 per the dyno, but I don't have tach and never seem to lack power at low end. My friend has a 103 and 255s in a streetglide with rinehart true dualsand its dead even until fourth where I then start pulling away. Hope this helps...

I've got the Woods TW-555 and I'm very happy with it. I have a very similar setup to you as well and the bike has way more power following the cam upgrade.

For what it's worth..On my last bike I put Andrews 26's in. it was a 96". It ran like a scalded dog and sounded cool, but I missed the gas mileage more than I enjoyed the power. The set up in my signature is all I will do to my 103 Limited. It runs plenty good.

If I were doing cams, which I'm not if my wife is reading this, I'd do the 555 and a .30 head gasket.

Andrews 26g on my 95" Stage II. Profound increase in torque versus the 203's I took out and runs consistent 45 mpg. I haven't seen 4500 rpm in months!

Ultra Limited 2010--I have Andrews 54H cams, V&H slash rounds, powerduals "X" Headpipe, SEPT tuner, and screamin eagle backing plate with the round traditional K&N air filter.
The bike dyno runs said 89hp and 100 on the torque...nice and steady across the whole band/graph.

...Have to agree with Fulsac--the cams are "milder" and the numbers may not be as high on the dyno as others here may have gotten with the Robert Wood's cams, but my bike runs solid and smooth has more than ample power. It will pass whatever I need to, handily, going 80 mph and widening out the throttle. It has enough "seat of the pants" yank to satisy me. I ride two-up a lot and it meets my expectations for touring/cruising down the road... much improved over the stock cams setup.

Andrews makes a good product, and I am happy with the results. I know even Robert Wood has Andrews manufacture the cams that he designs... If they are good enough for Wood, then they're good enough for me. hehe.
