Default CHECK ENGINE LIGHT after battery install

Something weird happened this time around when getting the bike ready for riding season. I installed the battery like I usually do....checked tires, and air suspension pressures. Bike fired right up, but the check engine light came back on and stayed on. I took the bike out for a ride and didn't notice anything strange...was hoping maybe just needed some running thru to get the light to go off. I found a thread about checking codes and found these 3 codes ... P 1510, 2127, 2138. I tried clearing and they don't seem to go away. I could take the bike to dealer (still under warranty)..but was hoping to figure it myself

I had my check engine light come on a couple of yrs ago after my battery went dead.
After cycling through a few starts a shutdowns, it eventually went out.

This is a repost of the data from the Doof site

Here is the process for checking codes and resetting codes. It is followed by the recalibration procedure that is not posted verbatum, it is just from my experience resetting my throttle.

The codes that I had on my E Glide were 1510 limited perf mode and 2138 TGS Correlation Error (Twist grip sensor)

The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes).
Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying and clearing speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word “diag” should then appear.

4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.

5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer

6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

7 - Record the codes.

8 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.

9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.

"No Rsp" will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.

To reset the 2138 error I made sure that the my throttle was loose (star tension wheel not partially engaged) and in the idle position. Per info I was able to locate you cycle the ignition 4 times, you must make sure that you wait 3 to 4 seconds during each ignition ON cycle. After the 4 ignition cycles you should start bike and verify that problem has cleared.

After problem has been cleared you can go back into the diag mode and clear out the diag codes. The codes would not clear as long as the ECM was reporting the 2138 code on mine, but they cleared after the throttle reset. Has been a couple of days since I reset my throttle and all is well.

All of this info was available ont he web, just took me a while to find both parts. I do not take credit for the info but hope that it might assist someone and save you the time of tracking it down.

Why did you take the battery out in the first place? Just get a battery tender. Dump some Sta-bil in the tank. And wait out winter.

UPDATE:
Took bike to dealer because I couldn't get the codes to clear. They found the trottle control sensor bad (worked fine before I put the bike away for season). Luckily this was under warranty.
