Default Today's project, gutted a 2011 2-1-2 pipe, with pics.

Tools used:

Vice, cut off wheel, air chisel, die grinder and welder.

Took about an hour to do. This is the second pipe i've gutted but the first time doing it this way. The last one I cut in two halves and drilled the cat out. Due to cutting it in half I lost about 1/8 inch in length from the sawzall so had some trouble mounting the cross over pipe on its bracket due to it being a little shorter.

So on this one the area I cut an access panel so I didn't loose any length. I tacked the four corners and welded the panel back in place. Once mounted the cuts and welds will be totally covered by the heat shields and will look totally stock appearing.

There are a few threads on this subject but I still subcribe to see different ways to do it and everybody's ideas. When I finally do mine, I don't want to have too many doubts.

I did this pipe for a friends 11 Ultra he picked up on Monday. I have a fuel MOTO headpipe on my personal bike. I bought it before I tried my hand in gutting a cat from a sock pipe.

EZRIDER I have an extra 11 headpipe if u want one gutted. Where are uin Pittsburgh?

Excellent alternative way to do it! Did you weld it with acetylene or electrically? I used a 2009 head pipe for mine and put in new 12 mm bungs in the stock place. Works good so far and sounds much stronger with the stock mufflers.

like your approach to cutting. When I did mine I never thought of that. Keeps the integrity of the pipe intact.
