Question Odometer/Fuel Range Indicator

"08 FLHTCU - Have had the bike since new and the range indicator has always worked when cycling thru the odometer, 2 trip meters and the fuel range. Now, I can not get the range indicator to show. Odometer and 2 trip meters work just fine. Fuel gauge (and all others) works just fine. No fuel range any more. No changes to the bike in any way for a while so can't figure why this would just stop working. Any ideas.

I have no answers to this problem. I also rely on the fuel range indicator when I ride. It's accurate. If you take it to the dealer and find the problem, could you post the results?

Sounds like possible a control unit issue. Something that takes the input from gas tank and odometer. Haven't seen or heard of this before, but I bet the dealer has. I agree about letting us know the outcome when you find out. Might be something as simple as a fuel sensor

Thanks. Will try the battery disconnect and see what happens. Have to do it tonight - at "work" now.

I was not sure of the gauge accuracy so as i was reading in the Owners manual I am pretty sure that is covered in there. You might check there.

Ride safe

Tried an alternative to disconnecting the battery by just pulling the Maxi fuse. According to the owners manual this supposedly kills everything except power to the starter which should not be an issue. Bottom line, it did not work. Still have only the odometer and 2 trip meters. No fuel range indicator. Any other ideas? When I get another chance to do so I might try the complete battery disconnect just to see if it make a difference.

There is a procedure for removing the ecm and reinstalling the stock ecm to reset the range feature for thundermax users. Involves a sequence with the ignition switch and run switch. Maybe a search on the fforum or net will reveal it and you may give it a try.

I know there is no thundermax here mentioned. I just wanted to share the solution to a common problem of range quitting....

I do have a Thundermax installed and there is an initialization sequence but I was trying not to have to uninstall the TMax and re-install the stock ECM to do this. Maybe somebody at Zippers could weigh in.
