Default Everybody said the oil filter on these touring bikes was a pain in the ***

So I planned my attack carefully. Knew what I was doing ahead of time. Tools carefully laid out. Drain funnel and pan precisely situated.

And I still wound up having to stick a screwdriver through the oil filter to get it off. All in all, the entire job was 20 minutes to do everything else, and nearly an hour before I gave up and just hammered a screwdriver through the filter.

I guess I'll just give up and buy the Harley tool for next time.

I'm confused. i was doing my Sportster with a regular oil filter wrench (attached to a socket wrench). I'll be doing my 1k change this weekend. what am I missing with regards to a special tool?

You might want to try the K&N oil filter next time. They include a hex nut on the end of the filter. Very easy to get off. Come in chrome too!

I never said that. So it can't be everyone. Seems like a routine task to me.

Why not just use a oil filter wrench that has a nylon strap?
