I have a 2001 ultra classic that will not start. It got rained on yesterday but rode home with no problem. Washed the bike this morning and it also started fine. When I turn the switch on lights, radio, everything works.... execpt it will not start. What I do not hear is the fuel pump. I replaced the relay with no luck. When I put a jumper on the relay I can hear the pump.....but it still will not start. I also do not see the check engine light come on when I turn on the ignition and turn on the run switch. all help would be greatly appreciated. Icertainly don't mind taking it to the shop but I want to make sure that it's not something simple. Thanks for taking the time to help

I would play with the ignition switch a little had one get loose on me and had to be in exactly the right spot to start .. If that's the case pull the ignition and clean and tighten everything .. Probably not it, but worth a shot and easy enough to do ..

 

How old is your battery? Sounds like maybe a weak battery.

 

Does it turn over? If not it sounds like Jay might be on the right track. Check to make sure that the check engine light is or isn't coming on, if it's coming on you can get a fault code from it, if not it sounds like a bad ign or run stop switch.

It sounds like a bad crank sensor, if the check engine light is coming on you can pull up the fault code. Do you have a service manual?

 

I do not..... purchased the bike in Jan. of this year.........800 miles with no problem until now...... is there any plcase where I can get the manual on line?

 

Turn the ign switch on for 3 sec, off for 3 sec, repeat, then turn ign switch on & wait eight sec, check eng light should flash, you need to count the rapid flashes, thereshould be 2 sets of rapid flashes with a pause in between. 4 then 1 would mean a bad crank sensor.

 

Ebay has always got auctions or buy-it-now sales for a lot of the manuals. I got a full service manual for an 05 EGC and the nice thing is a lot of the sales will actually send you the manual via the web or you can get them on CD. (if you get it electronically, don't hit "print" cuz they are pretty big!!!
