Default engine oil vs gear oil in final drive

50W engine oil has the same viscosity as 90W gear oil. Engine and gear oil just have different grading systems. 60W engine oil would be the same as 140W gear oil.

No, but most modern cars run auto trans fluid in manuals now-a-days.

Maybe so but ATF is not engine oil either....But if he's talking about the primary, ATF works well with the clutch pak but not so well with the SE Compensator. We all have opinions on the fluids that go in our bikes and if it works for you/us, that's all that matters...

And modern cars also call for 0w20 or 5w20 in their engine's. That's because the close tolerance of today's engine's. The tranny's on these v-twins are different. They need protection from backlash. That's where gear oil comes in. I would never use a motor oil in my Transmission. JMO

This is the same guy that wanted an excessive heat discount. Is there a question here somewhere?
