Default Windshied that works for both rider and passenger

Greetings,

I own a 2018 Ultra Limited and am having a heck of a time keeping the buffeting down on myself and my wife. I switched out the stock windshield with an 8.5" Long Ride Recurve windshield. The buffeting got worse.

Has anyone purchased a windshield for their Ultra that actually keeps the buffeting down on both the rider and passenger?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

I didn't know they made an 8.5". Did you use the how to measure tutorial on their site? BTW, how tall are you? For the record, there are many, many, many threads on buffeting.

Hey GalvTexGuy,

Sorry, it was 8", my bad. Yes, I researched several different windshield designs and bought what I thought was the best fit. I am 5' 9". I probably could have gone with a taller shield but as I said, the 8" seemed to be the best fit.

As you saw, I'm brand new to this forum. I took the "lets post something specific and see what happens" route. I will explore the many threads on buffeting.

Default Freedom Shield

I have a 2015 Ultra Limited and have a 9 inch Freedom Shield. Works perfect for me and my wife who rides 95% of the time with me. The Freedom shield has a recurve feature which throws the hair up an additional 2 inches over the windshield.

I'm 5 ft 9 inches same height as you. Good luck

17' ultra limited with a 10" freedom wide touring shield I'm 6'3" wifey is 6'0" the air doesn't seem to flow as good as my 08' ultra did. I'm ok but can't get her as happy.

Are you sure it's from the windshield ? Next time you ride put your left arm across your chest, move it in and out then up and down. You might be surprised what comes up from below.

I put fork mounted deflectors on my RK (HD brand) and buffeting was gone.

LRS 10" wide top works great for me on my 96 RK with aftermarket fairing (uses Harley Evo era windshields). No passenger tho, solo seat.

I must be lucky or don't understand the concept of buffeting. I am 6ft tall riding an 05 Ultra with a 4 inch shield. Wind shoots up and over me. Heavy bugs get through the wind stream and get me sometimes but I have no issue with buffeting, unless I'm just used to it so it doesn't bother me. I don't have the fork deflectors but I do have the freedom wings on the sides of the fairing.

If you had buffeting as bad as mine there is no getting use to it.
As small as those fork deflectors are and as much as they do I am convinced that it takes very little to eliminate buffeting such as fairing and windshield design to things like lowers on 98FLHP RK.
