Default Fuel gauge

I purchased an 06 street glide about a month ago. It came with a 107" motor. The only issue I have found is the fuel gauge doesn't work. I took the front fairing off and the wires are hooked up. I took the dash panel off. My first question is is the fuel sending unit mounted just below the filler opening? My second question is can I buy just the wiring harness that goes from the sending unit to the gauge? Any input would be appreciated.

Buy a factory service manual. It will have the info on how to trouble shoot the problem.
It probably IS NOT the wiring.
The cost of the manual will be the best money you ever spend on the bike!

My fuel guage starting acting up last year... it reads correctly for 50 miles. then bounces for the next 20 miles. Then reads "empty", and the fuel light is on, until I reach a little more than 1/4 tank.
Having never had a fuel guage until this bike, I kept up the habit of re-setting my trip meter. I KNOW I can go a distance, so I fill before I need to. Which I do any way....maybe 100-150 miles... I need to stretch my legs, anyway

+1 on the service manual

Thanks for the suggestion. I do plan on getting a service manual.
