Default TC88 Cam Plate Upgrade w/ TW6-6 cams INTRO

RCC-2 Wood Kit w/TW6-6r Cams

  • The RCC-2 kit from Fuelmoto/Wood is excellent – comes with EVERYTHING needed.....shims, orings, new torrington bearings and even the cam cover gasket. Only gaskets that did not come with it were the head pipe exhaust gaskets.

  • Everything in the kit was bagged and CLEARLY identified.

  • The instructions are limited – probably for fear of liability from HD – but I had gathered all info needed prior to starting. I also knew, if need be, I could call Fuelmoto or Wood if I ran into problems.
  • My resources were :
Atrain68 posts on cam swap – Excellent.
The J&P video on cam swap – Excellent.
My 2002 Harley Maint. Manual – Very good.

  • The task was fairly simple and easy. I did not rush. I thought out every step. I did not care how long it took. All told, I am probably into it for about 9-10 hours of actual labor.
  • Only snag : I purchased the Beatty tool from a Forum member, but it did not work. Apparently there is another size cam bearing on different model Harleys that the seller and I did not realize during the exchange. (it would have been nice, but those bearings were so easy to pull and install – just got a rental bearing puller from Autozone)
  • In retrospect, I wish I would have purchased new stock pushrod tubes....that's it.
I documented this and took pics to help you guys out with the older TC88's that may be thinking about the upgrade. If you are mechanically inclined and enjoy getting your stuff right, than you can do it too!!

WORE SLAP OUT AND CRACKED !!

I am glad I did this also because.....Harley should be ashamed they did not correct the cam shoe problem....only 21992 miles and that inside cam shoe I had was ready to shatter....just look at the pics.

Good choice on the Wood cams, I have been running them for years. Changing cams is really pretty easy, just need to be thorough. In 2006 on the Dynas, then all the '07 and newer bikes, they use a larger diameter inner cam bearing. Having the correct tools makes all the difference.

Keith at Fuel Moto tells me that this is still the setup that they recommend for my 2003 FLHTCUI. If you had the choice between Fuel Moto's setup, and the SE Hydraulic Upgrade/installed by a HD dealer, what are the pros and cons?
I am pretty happy with my Stage One 88 and was not going to change cams if I had work done at Sauk City Harley. I am an hour and a half from my HD dealer, and Fuel Moto, so it's a wash.

I loved the TW6-6 cams in my 96". I should have put the TW7H cams in my 103 (same specs, more lift). I have 555's, they pull nice, but I miss the hit from the 6-6's.
