Default options for better 103 mileage

the mialeage on my 2011 FLT sucks (33-35 MPG). sure if I ride like I have already died I get a little better, but not much. with my 96 it was not too difficult to get 43-45 MPG.

don't get me wrong, I like the additional torque I feel in the "seat of the pants" from the 103, but this sucks.

what options are available to genuinely increase the 103 mileage without running so lean I'm cooking the engine?

One of my buddies has 2011 RKC with a 103 and gets the same identical mileage that I do on my 2010 RK with a 96. Both are around 40 mpg. The key to this is Stay Out Of The Throttle. If you ride it like a cruiser, it will get 40+. If you ride it like a drag bike, you will get what you are getting. The definiition of insanity is when someone continues to do the same thing over and over and expects different results.

what have you done to the bike?

My Pal's 2011 Limited 103 with air cleaner/ headers and SE download gets right at 43-44.

same mileage I get on my 2009 FLHTC 96" air cleaner/ hi flow slip ons, XIEDS--- exact same mileage tested over thousands of miles riding together.

Most of the roads we ride are rural 2 lanes usually at 65 to 70--- sometimes quicker. once in a while cruising at 80 on the Interstates where mileage drops to probably 38.

Faster, more wind resistance, more fuel.

Is this what you are seeing?

( I have Pals with the PC V who get low 30's at 65 mph)

I get minE below 40 when I am blasting down highway at 90+, which is often here in Fla, but 80 and under I get 40-42, this is on a properly tuned 107 with cams fatcat and hiflo a/c...

65-75 mph.

parking brake. reminds me of my wife's reaction to v-twinn engine motion at idle. so I told her , "honey I think its only running on two cylinders". well she ran with that for a while...LOL

Be careful with that, as my wife is fond of saying, "You gotta fall asleep sometime, smartass!"

if you mean do I routinely let my 77 year old mom in her 15 year old Ford Tauras dust me, the answer is a big NO.

I very rarely ride it like I stoll it, but I do ride it like I own it.
