Default Front end wobble '11 Ultra

The front end on my '11 Ultra has had a wobble on deceleration since the day I picked it up. Deceleration, hands off or very lightly gripping the bars and the bike goes into a wobble at 33 mph almost every time. I've played with tire pressures, rear shock pressure, etc...nothing seems to help. It's at about 5,000 miles now and seemed to have gotten a little worse lately.

The bike was in the shop today for something else and I asked them if they would tighten the steering head bearings down to "Road Glide spec". The issue seems to be more prevelant on RG's for some reason and was addressed by the MoCo in a service bulletin back in '09 I think. They called for the bearing to be tightened up to about "2 swings" of the front end.

The tech was reluctant to do it on my Ultra for some reason, but did so at my urging. I just wanted everyone to know that it made absolutely no difference in the wobble. I can tell the front end is tighter, feels like it's on rails at highway speeds, but it still wobbles at 33 mph on deceleration.

I'm not complaining TOO loudly. I love the bike and it's more of an annoyance than anything else. But if you're thinking of addressing your wobble at the neck bearings, be advised, it didn't fix the issue for me. I'm open to more suggestions if you have 'em.

Well you already addressed some of the issues that have been known. Maybe it is your wheels, they may not be balanced. You didn't mention that so I am assuming that may be the issue.

Since you bike is very new, leave it at the dealer until they fix it and have them give you a loaner. If they are kind enough to do so. Why pay for something that should be fixed under warranty?

HD's official response, so I'm told, is "keep your hands on the bars". Dealer had heard multiple complaints from multiple owners, no fix in sight other than neck bearings.

It's possible that it's always been something wrong with the tire. This has been reported here before and in some cases, the tire was to blame. As you put mileage on a bad tire, it would naturally get worse due to slightly uneven wear. So before you pull all your hair out, change out the tire for a new one. It may scratch your itch.

Every street bike that I ever owned, since 1982 has had a slight bit of wobble at right around that same speed. 4 hondas, 2 kawis, a yamaha and my 2 harleys. They have all done that at that speed on decel. I believe this is a known phenomenon and as long as its very slight there's probaly nothing wrong with ur bike.

I have the exact same issue on my 11 sg. Right around 35-33 mph mainly on decel, really eerie wobbling. I even swapped time and installed runs beads and it made no difference at all, its still there and irritates me.

Head bearing would have been my 1st guess. Next would be tires, front 1st but dont forget the rear. A problem rear can cause some funny front end issues as can a problem swingarm (loose bushing/bearings)
