DO NOT crank the straps down so tight on the front that it pulls the bike all the way down to the bottom of it's shock travel! Maybe half way (maybe a hair more), but as long as you strap it from each side of your bike front and back (4 seperate straps) to a FIRM tighten you will be just fine (wheel chaulk or not).
If you crank the front of the bike down all the way using ratchet straps you will blow the seals during travel! The bike needs to have partial use of it's shocks while traveling (people make this mistake all the time).
Check it everytime you stop for gas, store whatever.
Oh and I used a light wieght portable ramp when I use to use a trailer.

I've done this twice, and going to do it again in October. Buy the Harbor Freight wheel chock and attach it THROUGH the floor with 1/2" "eye' bolts in the front, and regular bolts in the channel.
Then drill through the floor and attach a couple more 1/2" 'eye' bolts for hold downs.
Works great !
How far are you going ?? I did 2300 miles without a hitch. I'll post some pics of my new install this weekend.

Go to your local harley dealer and get one of there shipping skids or pallet. They will also have the tie down straps that Harley uses. my dealer sells them for around 5 bucks a pair. Strap it down at the dealers shop and drive the rental truck to there shop and have them load it with there fork lift. This is what my daughter did on her move from California to Florida.

bolted a harbor freight wheel chock to a 4x4 the width of the truck (so it couldnt move side to side).. put some eyelets in the 4x4 as tie down points... then put another 4x4 behind the rear tire (with eyelets for tie downs) and then pulled the rear 4x4 tight up to the rear tire. i connected both 4x4's by ratchet straps and thats how i pulled them tight together... essentially i made a shipping crate... let me know if you need a picture, ill try and find one to send your way... good luck!!

I have 2 HD shipping pallets, used them when i moved from San Antonio to SoCali. They were the last to load into the full size truck, tied them down and had no issues with them sliding. I just put them away in case i need them when we move again.
