Default Which cams?

I "thought" I would keep my bike stock for a long time, but you all know how it is.....

I ride a 2010 FLHX. (SE a/c, V&H dresser duals w/ Rinehart 3.5"). Now I've got the sound I wanted, I want more torque!

I was looking through the Screaming Eagle catalogue's cam section. My choice is either 254E or 255.

I don't drag race my bike at all. Every once in awhile, I pull to over 5000rpm, but most of my riding is done less than 4500rpm at most.

I've read many good feedback/ impression from the guys who have installed 255, but haven't seen any about 254E cams. If any of you out there w/ 254E's, I would like to hear your impression.

If there are anyone who has experience in both 255 and 254e, please tell me the difference you felt when riding.

Thanks!

Per the SE Catalog, exact same bikes with the 254e vs the 255 in a 1/4 mile the 254e would win.

The 254e is a low to mid cam and the 255 are more mid to high rpm. On my bike unless Im cruising on the Freeway Im always in the 3000 rpm range so that is mid range where I want the power to be strongest. IMO the 255 is a better overall cam for the 96 or 103, the 254e is going to go alittle more flat by 3500 rpm and above . Also even though the 255 is a mid range cam it pulls smooth and at least as strong as stock off idle.

If for a 88 or a 96 the Se 204 is also a good strong bolt in cam

Is Your's a 96" or 103"? I'm wasn't sure if the powerpac 103 was an option. Anyway I ran an 09 ultra with stage II , 103" 255's ran good lots of low end tq. Now have 11 limited build is in my sig. I really don't notice a difference. If there is it's minimal, real comparible builds, head work included. If you have a 96" alot of guys said the 255's worked well in them have never seen anything on 254's in a 96".When I did mine read some stuff guys said that the 254's looked like a little more compression would work good the 103 has a little more than the 96 I'm not sure why on the compression comment maybe someone else would be able to answer that.

If it's a 96, run the 255s. If it's a 103, go with 204s or 254s.

The 103 has a little more compression than the 96 due to the increased swept volume into the same size combustion chamber. The cams with a later intake close like a little more static compression, since the longer the intake valve is open, the longer it will be before you start building compression.

Good description except backwards... 255 = stump pulling low end, 254e comes alive higher in the rpm band compared to the 255.

I have been doing engine builds for years, have used 204, 255, 254e, 211, tman cams, woods cams, andrews cams. You are wasting your money with the 255 and 254e. If i was going to use a Screamin' Eagle for a street glide, 204 would be it. Check out the new 555 Wolf cam for the best results. Will out perform any torque cam on the market.

I just put 255's in my 2010 FLHX with a 96" I already had a Propipe,A/C,and PCV.It does help the low end alot comes on around 2-2200.It feels a lot better on the bottom end but the bike doesn't really feel faster if that makes sense. There isn't much point in running the bike over 4-4500RPM which I normally don't anyways if you normally shift by 4000 you should be happy ,I only had $250 in the whole swap .
