Default Compact Air Compressor

I recently bought the "new" Harley Compact Air Compressor to carry in the tour pack. Well the first time I used it to air the front tire up a couple pounds as soon as I turned on the power switch the pump ran for just a split second then quit. I assumed that the pump could have been bad. I checked the fuse on the pump and it was still good, 15 amp fuse. Then when I plugged the Battery Tender up and passed by the bike the next day the red light was still flashing. I took the seat off and checked the fuse on the lead to the battery tender and sure enough it was a 3 amp fuse that was blown. Went by the dealer and asked him if anyone else had problems with the pump and he assumed that probably no one else that had bought the new pump had used it yet. Anyway, he gave me a 15 amp for the battery tender lead, tried the pump and all is well.

Yeah the 3amp fuse on the tender lead is too gimpy to run anything useful.....you say the 15 amp let it run just fine?

My only concern with changing that fuse would be knowing what that powerlet wire for the battery tender is rated. If the wire is less than 15 amp and you use a 15 amp fuse that could create a real problem. I'd hate to see you half way through pumping up a tire when the insulation fries under your seat and starts a fire. There has to be some reasoning behind why that fuse is 3 amp rated.

Slime also makes a nice bike pump that comes with lighter plug, battery tender and battery clips. It does a good job but I did have to put a bigger fuse in the battery tender to run it. I also put a 15 amp in there but not sure how low you could go and it not blow the fuse. It may run on a 10 amp.

I am running a 15 amp fuse on my battery tender which I also use for my heated gear as well, no issues here.
