I'm running a 10 amp fuse using the heated jacket and gloves. I blew it this morning on the way to work (28 degrees! yow!). Anyway, what is everybody running with the jacket and gloves? According to the Gerbings manual, I should be drawing around 8 or so amps and the 10 amp fuse looks to be right. I don't want to install a bigger fuse unless I really need to.

I have a jacket liner and gloves and run a 1o amp fuse,

 

I would put the 10a. Back in then put in do a wiggle test maybe u have a short in one of the wires

 

I'd just use a short 1/4" bolt in the fuse spot, wait a few minutes and look for the smoke. works sometimes.









just kidding!!! even if you use a 15 or 20 amp fuse its not a big deal, if you have a short, its gonna pop! if you use just barely over the rated draw, you may pop some fuses even though there isn't a problem due to a slight amp spike, if it says 8 amps, I'd put a 15 in there is no problems with that, but I'm sure you will do what you want to anyhow

 

Running a 15amp in mine and I run both the pant and jacket liner as well as heated gloves with a dual controller from Warm n Safe. No issues here.

 

You should be running 8.6A with G3 gloves and a jacket liner, which is getting close to the limit for a 10A fuse. I wouldn't bet fuses are manufactured to extremely precise tolerances nor that the equipment would adhere precisely to specs.

The Gerbing's wiring I got with my liner uses a 15A fuse, but I'm running my HD liner (made by Gerbing's) and some old Classic gloves through the bike's P&A fuse (15A). It has no other overhead attached to it on the '07 and probably earlier, but '09> use it for the lighter and '10> adds heated grips (when so equipped). The only time it blew fuses was when the jacket liner was faulty, fixed in warranty. I'm on my third jacket liner now and this one has been good for two years, although I don't use them often in S. LA. The first blew the fuse instantly when the gloves were attached (short in glove circuit) and the second would blow them intermittently, apparently a fault in the liner grid. It's a good thing these things have lifetime warranties on electrical workmanship.

According to the manual you are pulling 9.1 amps with the liner and gloves. Gerbing recommends the 10 amp fuse. You may want to check for a short.

 

The 10A fuse is too close to the actual running current...depending on the temp right around the fuse, coupled with the running current, could cause the fuse to open...

Go to a 12A or 15A fuse and you should be fine....

 

Thanks for the replies. I don't think I have a short, unless it's intermittent. I think (as was suggested) that I'm running a little too close to the max rating of the fuse. I'll just kick it up a notch and put in a 15a fuse the next time I blow one.
