Default 08 flhx tire and wheel sizes

I have a 08 flhx with 16 wheels. I'm wanting to buy new wheels and tires and I'm looking at going with a 18 in front but I want to go with a wider tire in the rear what is the widest tire and rim can I use in 16 and 18 and between the two which of those are the widest with out rubbing my belt guard.

Thanks

On the rear you can go with a 16 x 3.5" with a 150/80-16 or a 18 x 4.25" with a 150/70-18. Both will fit without any mods but the 18" is around 1/2" taller if that matters to you. We carry a lot of the top wheel manufactures so if you have any questions about pricing, fitment, etc just let us know.

I have just bought a Duece alloy rear wheel to try squeezing into my bike, which is 4.5" x 17" and takes a 160/70 tyre. That's an alternative and as it is a solid disc you can fit whatever style of front you fancy. I prefer Avon tyres and their Storm in that size has a higher load rating than the stock Harley tyres of 79. It is likely to be a close fit!

between these two what would be the difference in width 16 x 3.5" with a 150/80-16 or a 18 x 4.25" with a 150/70-18.

Thanks

There is no simple answer to that one! Tyre widths differ between brands for any given size, also between diameters in the same brand. The manufacturers (eg Avon) give some of this info on their websites, but even that is not reliable!

My Venom 150/80 x 16 is supposed to be 150mm wide fitted, but actually measures 153mm, or 1/8" wider than it should be. They also make a V rated tyre of the same nominal size, which I understand is a little wider.

So check the website of your preferred brand, but allow a little extra 'just in case'!
