Default Fork oil woes...

Just changed my fork oil to the se heavy fork oil and not happy at all, damm near solid now, lost all suppelness and will beat you to death. I am a aggresive rider and got some chrome lowers so I'd figured that the heavy oil would fit my riding style, wrong move, just like no suspension at all. For anyone changing there fork oil I recomend not using the heavy stuff.

Been there, done that. That oil is way too heavy. What worked for me was Bel-ray 15w. I believe the SE heavy is 20wt

What weight is regular Type-E oil? My forks are apart right now while the lowers get powder coated, and I was planning on doing a 50/50 mix of Type-E and SE Heavy.

I used Screamin Eagle Performance HEAVY, p/n# 9981-87, it improved ride by getting rid of the extreme nose diving on braking. I think its a big improvement over stock. Make sure you don't ovefill.

I too just went through that. Installed new fork lowers and a local motorcycle shop told me 30 wt fork oil was right for my bike....WRONG! Felt like I filled it with sand. Went to 15 wt, still too hard. I ended up with Bel Ray 7 wt and perfect.

WHat is the weight of the stock oil in in 09+ touring bikes? I am interested in heavier oil but don't want to over do it.

I wouldn't go any higher than 10 wt, when you run over a piss ant it may feel like you dropped off a 4" curb!

Give it some time before you change it out. Fork oil will lose viscosity pretty quickly. I have gone through the same thing in the past many times and before you know it the ride will get much softer.
