Default Tour Pack Quick Release I need your input..

I have a 2011 Ultra Limited. I'm considering the Tour Pack Quick Release. HD says without the tour pack it handles easier. The cost of materials and labor is about $800 ish.... If you have this what are your experiences with it such as easy to take off and put back on, any regrets about the purchase? Is it worth the expense? Thanks.

Don't waste your $$$$ IMO, I have had my tour pak off about 3 times in 5 years, I spent the cash for the detach kit, and if I had to do it again I would not do it, I would buy a set of good rear shocks with the money,or something like that.

i have a 07 EGC and i love the ability to remove the tour pack , it really does handle much better, it also prevents you or your passenger filling it up with a bunch of stuff. I ride mostly without it unless i'm going on a trip, easy on easy off. jd

This is what I have found too. Money could be spent better elsewhere in my opinion. besides I became used to the space the tourpak provided me so it was hard to go without it. Hell I went shopping the other day with my ultra. lol

I have one and love it. Use it loads as I like the stripped down look. Remember to add the price of a new seat for when the Pak is off as the standard seat looks really ugly without the Pak on

when I was installing the tour pak detachable kit, it occurred to me that if i wanted to take it off with nuts and bolts it would take about 30 minutes a time.

and on the next bike that is just what I will do.

I had already paid for the detachable kit- so live and learn.

The detachable kit is best for those who want ( and will) take the tour pak on/off more than once or twice a year.--- or those who don't own or use wrenches ( which is OK).

I now leave the tour pak off except for touring. ( on my last bike I never took it off, groceries, errands etc...

In terms of handling, loosing 35 pounds swinging around up high is noticeable but it's not the difference between fun and work.

I got the dealer to throw the installed HD kit in when I bought my UC, I love it. Easy on & off (it does help to have someone help with lining up the brackets when you put the TP back on), & when I travel long distances solo I can carry more stuff using a Tourmaster back rest bag and strapping stuff to the passenger section of the seat. I've never really noticed much difference in handling when the TP is empty vs off.

I like the way the bike looks & get waayy more compliments when the TP is off. Pretty much a personal preference but i'm glad I have it!

30 minutes to take it on or off w/o the detach kit is not too much for me.
A friend has the detach kit and I just don't like the movement in the TP when it is attached. For the $500+ it costs, I can get a real nice solo seat to use when I do remove it.
