Default Avon Air Cushioned Grip Removal

A lot of information on installing grips. How about removing the glued on Avon grips with the cushion rings and hard plastic inside?

Do you want to use them again?

If not ..... channel locks and a twisting motion.

Slide a screwdriver up under the rubber then spray some WD-40 in there. Wait a few minutes then slowly work the screwdriver around the grip, add more WD-40 as needed. Position a rag over any part of the bike that might get dripped on. Works like a charm.

They use that "tape" adhesive sheet, right? Easy as ripping glue? Do peole recommend not using the sheet and sticking (no pun intended) with traditional adhesives when installing instead?

Curious - I'm tossing around the idea of the Avon (Boss Performance? Something like that) grips myself.

WD40 works eventually, but not very well. If you have to put something in there to dissolve the glue you should use something stronger, like gas or a solvent. Just watch your paint. Try a hair dryer to soften the glue then twist it off. I have never tried it but I hear it works, worth a shot.

That's what I would do.

I heard once about a guy who used air blown in around the opening to break it loose....I have used a piece of coat hanger bent into a capitol "T" shape a pushing the bottom part of the "T" in between the grip and the handlebar all the way to the end of the handlebars and twisting to top part like you are opening a can of sardines ...the coat hanger should slowly walk around the handlebar breaking the grip loose, after you get about half way you can usually just give the grip a firm twist and it will break loose...I don't know if this will work with yours, but it works on stock grips...

I just twisted/pulled until the left grip broke loose. Avon will send you new tape wrap upon request for re-using. Don't destroy the grip....

Troop, did you use a set of pliers/channel locks to twist and turn?
