Overheating at 50 degrees?

Default Overheating at 50 degrees?

Hey guys, needs some input. Was out riding yesterday and got caught on a 10 mile stretch of road where there is a traffic light every mile, and it was lunch hour traffic. At about mile 7, when sitting at a light, the bike started going into parade mode. It ran fine when I would take off, but at the next light, while waiting for all the cars to make their turns, etc.,. it would do it again.

My motor is stock, with the stock headpipe (and CAT) on it. The humidity was high, and there was very little breeze if any. But still... at 50 degrees??? I've had it do it only one other time and that was this past summer and the temp was 113.

It hasn't thrown any codes that I know of, and it ran fine the rest of the day, once I got on the highway. Anyone think something is wrong? Or just one of those weird "Harley moments"???

It should not kick on at 50 degrees.

sounds like it was doing what it is supposed to.

if the bike has been idling a long time, it'll get hot.

it'll only do that when stopped, so no reason to worry.

you could always have the sensor checked if it seems cool, or turn off the EITMS mode

I think you might have a bad head temp sensor or your radiator is low on coolant...but probably the sensor.

It sounds like the EITMS, which shuts down the rear cylinder at idle when the engine reaches a certain temperature. If you want to turn that feature off, turn the ignition to "on", but don't start the engine. Roll the throttle to full closed position and hold it for 5 seconds. The process is the same to turn it back on.

Mine did that at any temperature, from sitting in traffic or going from light to light. Since, I've added the FL-VIED-10 from Nightrider.com which enriches the fuel mixture. Haven't had a chace to ride it for long periods, but am hopeful that this should eliminate the overheating...

I bet it was calm that day too! Just a "Harley moment". Had a high comp evo S&S engine that pinged even tho it 21* on a "Toys for Tots" due to sitting/idling. That day had no wind to speak of....

...how do you roll a throttle to a "closed" position?...don't you mean fully open?...throttle is closed when bike is shut off..no?..

TBW throttles have an "active" closed position, roll it forward a few degrees from "neutral" or resting position to the stop
