Default Evo vs Twincam - the Sweet Years

We have been discussing an article at hdopenroad about Evo's versus twin cams. I thought it would be interesting to get the view of twin cam riders (I am one myself). Please check out the article at http://www.hdopenroad.com/guest-arti...e-sweet-years/ and let us know what you think.

Wink Thanks...

Very cool article! Thanks for sharing!

One thing I have noticed about the Evo...having owned a 98 Fatboy, and now a 2010 Road King, is the Evo didn't get nearly as hot...at least it didn't feel that way. (Yes, I have a tuner...PC-V tuned by FM)
The Evo's heads had a nice sized channel that encreased surface area which probably helped it stay cooler than the TC...which doesn't have this feature.

Just my observation.

My Evos had a much quieter top end than my Twin Cam. Didn't sound like a sewing machine. Got 100K out of those Evos without a whimper. Only issue I had was base gaskets weeping.. So on my last Evo, I had them replaced with James gasket when it was barely broken in. Ran it for over 100k with never an issue! Great motor. I can only hope for the same reliability out of this Twin Cam 96.

I like my twin cam 96. 2008 Ultra with now 64k on it. But I do relish the simplicity of the Evo. I have had my "fly-by-wire" throttle go out, stuck me in limp mode, with no way to repair it. I do not like feeling helpless!

Good read. Makes me want to buy my barbers '98 Ultra, but it's a fuel injection Evo, so not sure about that. If I did, I'd probably have a carb. put on it.

Thanks for the info.

Evo has been the best motor HD has produced so far. Thanks to AMF and Porsche for the design. I have a twin cam and I guess the verdict is still out on them, but evidence suggest that the twin cam / transmission seems to have a lot of issues. I think HD went cheap instead instead of robust with many parts of the twin cam and drivetrain, especially the bearings. JMHO

good and bad in both engines!!! the professor better check his rocker box gaskets also on the great evo along with his base gaskets and build the evo motor to keep up with the twinkies. bottom line if it has **** or wheels sooner or later ya gonna have problems

I would like to get my hands on a decent late 80's early 90's FXLR.
