Audio upgrades done - Biketronics Titan II, Sony Marine DMR
Just finished doing my modest little audio upgrade. Added a Sony DSX-MS60 Marine DMR head unit, Biketronics Titan II 6.5" speakers and J&M sound deadening foam in the fairing. I must say for a budget system without an amp it rocks!!! These speakers have a clarity that is leaps and bounds above stock or many other bike specific speakers I have heard. Highs are crystal clear without being harsh and they go low enough to give a little kick. And they are efficient enough to play plenty loud enough without distorting or the need for an amp. They handled every type of music I threw at them. And I love having the ability to throw my ipod into the tray and forget about it. The Biketronics retro radio kit was a breeze to install and as advertized kept all stock handlebar controls in place.
I picked up the Sony head unit from Amazon for $129.99 shipped. And the Titan II speakers, retro radio kit and J&M foam from Phat Performance all for $460 and change.

Much better look. Love the speaker grills that come with the Titans:
Before and after video. Audio isn't the greatest. But it isn't exactly easy to capture good audio on video.

Another video. I made a playlist of different types of music just to show how the Titan II's handle them

Just a little update.
Got a chance to get her out on the road for a little while today. Major difference. Once I got the settings tweaked it sounded so much better and more clear than stock at speeds. My wife also commented that she could actually hear what the songs were instead of hearing just muffled noise.

Are the speaker grills reversable on the Titan II speakers? I'm looking at getting these also but I prefer the smoother look on the speakers. The grill inserts look like they may be reversable but I'm not certain. Just figured I'd ask out of curiousity. Also, how far out does the tweeter protrude? I asked Biketronics about installing these in the lower fairings also and they say that they will go with the HD flush mount grills but it just looks like to me that the tweeter may extend too far. These are my first choice for speakers right now for the batwing fairing and the lowers, but I just want to make sure they will work like I hope. Thanks for any info you can provide on them!

@PistonPuller: TBH I really don't have a basis of comparison since I did everything at one time. I am sure it helped tighten the bass up a little bit. I will say that it lessens vibration in the fairing when you crank it up though.
@Drelkor: Not really sure if the grills are reversible or not. Didn't really pay attention. I also didn't notice how far the tweeters protruded, but I don't think it was that far. If Biketronics says they will work with the flush grills, then I would trust them. They know their stuff. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
