Default Neutral on 2012 SG 103

I have a fairly new 2012 SG with 103 engine.

Only around 650 miles on it - original oil (will change to synth at 1,000)

I find when the bike is hot, I have a hard time getting neutral. It keeps shifting past it (either to 2nd or back to 1st). When the bike isn't really hot, no problems.

Any ideas? Is this perhaps something that will go away with synth oil? What else could cause this?

Has anyone else experienced this with low mileage?

Common issue. Synthetic oil will help alot. I use Redline Shockproof in the tranny. Until then, try using the heel shifter to find neutral. It seemed to work for me.

Harleys go to neutral from 1st.

if still having trouble then look at clutch adjustment and /or primary chain adjustment ( which is now "automatic")

since it is new have the dealer look at the adjustments for you

fluids do not offer magic solutions

Just picked up a 2012 SG myself. It seems to be easy to find neutral if the bike is coasting to a stop. Once stopped it is a pain in the *** to find it.

It gets better with milage. When new I couldn't find neutral to save my life either, now after 9k, a clutch adjustment, and fluid changes it's pretty easy.

Change the oil now to synthetic and again at around 1k. The oil gets really dirty during the first 500 miles. I never wait for 1k.

That's just me...

+1, I had a hard time with neutral when new. Time will help. I put in Amsoil in at the 1000 mile and that helped. Now at 2300 I have no problems.

I had same problem with my 12 ultra. Changed oils at 500 with Dino and still had problem. When I did the 1000 mile service I switched to syn3. Problem was fixed. Drops right in now.

The combination of a 75 90 weight trans fluid such as Mobil 1 and a proper clutch adjustment will fix the problem, may be somewhat sensitive but a world better, the synthetic will also smooth the shifting

Also to get you by. I found it easier to get to neutral while rolling right before you stop and if you are already stopped give it a little throttle and it should pop in.
