Started this mod last night. Got the switch soldered to the opener and it works intermittently... seems when I put the circuitboard back in the case it quits working. But then every once in a while i try it and it works again.. Hate to get everything installed and put back together and only have it work intermittently... I see in this thread a few have had the same problem.. any of you guys figure out the fix? I tried it with just the circuit board under my dash and same thing.. intermittently working.. The opener is brand new so I would think the battery in the remote is good but maybe not?/

Thanks

Possible causes of intermittent operation.
Poor/cold solder joint
Damaged trace on circuit board
Battery not being held firmly in place
Possible defective switch.

FWIW when I did this mod on my 07 ultra I used the PTT switch. Just checked the FSM, pulled one pin from the connector and tapped into the switch wiring. We never use the intercom so it's just a quick push with the left thumb to open the door. And it's quick and easy to restore it to stock if/when we sell the bike.

Is there a mod so that I don't need to worry about replacing the battery? I know it will take a while for the battery to run out.

I didn't bother as that battery will last a couple of years and it's easy to remove the fairing. But if you want to go to the effort you might try this

I did one of these garage hacks on an existing opener and ended up trashing it. I had mine wired to a button on the dash so it looked stock, and used some harness that I had to buy so that I could tuck the opener under the seat. My problem was how often I had to change the battery. I ride every day, so that's 4 button pushes a day on an opener that uses a watch battery.

The final straw was when I replaced the battery and in two weeks it was dead. After that I was done with it and replaced it with the Harley opener that uses the high beam. Love it and no battery replacements.
