Do the 2012s have electrical charging issues?
A friend just wrote in Facebook the line below. I had not heard any issues with the 2012s pertaining to charging.
"Home from Key West! No changes to the place so you can all be happy your favorites are intact. Harley Davidson lived up to their reputation on shoving defective products onto the market with thier prior knowlegde of the defect sad to say. 2012 Hd touring machines have faulty charging systems, not good on an all electronic bike"

This is the first I've heard about this issue being more prevalent on the 2012 bikes.
From my experience, every Harley I've owned has eventually needed a new alternator stator and/or voltage regulator if I kept it for any length of time. If the alt. quit on a '12 bike, that's pretty quick but would probably have happened eventually anyway.
Edit: I just did a Google search about this and the results pretty much confirm my personnal experiences. The alternator stators on Harleys have been failing fairly regularly since they started using them. The general concensus is that the engine vibrations eventually cause the windings to rub together till they short out.
High-quality aftermarket high output stator/rotor kits seem to be the only permanent fix.
