I didn't know this...so my '12 Ultra already has the SE compensator from the factory build?

very true....loose bolt problem....unless you install a retainer like this.

Hey All, are the symptoms and fix the same on older EG's, my 2002 has started sounding like a thrashing machine when it starts! Indy shop I stopped at, said comps on my bike rarely go and it's the jack shaft, loose.

It's an old cop bike, and I do grab some throttle now and then.

Most of the threads are talking about newer bikes having this problem. Is there something better than the SE comp?

Thanks

Patent definition: A shock-absorbing sprocket or gear assembly or like torsionally elastic device is described having resilient cushioning means interposed between mating lugs of the hub and rim to smooth and dampen torsional shocks and vibrations produced by a power drive train. An improved radial bearing surface is provided which maintains symmetry of the bearing load with respect to the drive, and which ensures concentricity between the hub and rim and keeps the rim from wobbling axially or orbiting radially with respect to the hub during operation. The cushioning means are configured relative to the hub and rim to accommodate angular displacements of at least 9°.[8D][

I knew that.

Yes. Read the fitment text from http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

"Original Equipment on Trike, '11-later Touring and '12 DynaŽ and SoftailŽ models."

I have the 2009 street glide. I was told yesterday by the dealer that my compensator was bad. Noisy and hard to turn over initially. $751.00

Wow, I did my own work on my 08 Road King. It was a bout $300 total, SE comp about $240 or so with shipping, and an new primary gasket for $40+.

Guess I did about $450 in labor. Hope they never start taxing that as income. My theory is that if you get the loud bang when the starter first hits, that will shorten the life of your starter drive, had to replace mine at the same time as the comp. The sprag clutch was making that famous grinding noise.

it makes me feel better for having such a large *****, I don't have to compensate!!

(I know that makes no sense, but I wasn't going to go the other way!!)
