Default Cost To Powder-Coat the Engine/Trans??

I'm wondering what you guys thought it would cost to have my heads, jugs, crank case and tranny powder-coated?
I mean if I went to someplace and dropped it off. I don't have the special tools to remove and replace everything needed.

Youd be 15-17 hours labor, couple hundred in gaskets and bearings plus the powder coating. Make sure the powder coater can do heads and cylinders to stand up to the heat. Seen someturn funny colors neer the hot spots.

You want to save this until the motor needs rebuilding.

No sense in taking it apart just for color.

And you have to be sure the guy putting your motor back together knows what he is doing

I would hope so too.
So anyone know how much money this might cost?

I didn't do the heads but just finished with about 100 pieces total and spent around $750 for the PC.
If your not short on time or patience buy a manual and disassemble yourself, you'll save a lot in labor.
If you don't want any headaches and have the money then figure around 3K gaskets, labor, & PC)
Also, do some homework on your powder coater.

i am doing same thing right now to my motor. i called precision powder coating in spring tx and they said $100 for powder coating cases, $60 for cylinders, and $120 for heads. I hear they are pretty good and offer 2 year warranty on their work. i have heard horror stories about powder coating chipping off the engine after it came back from a powder coater. make sure you get someone that is reliable

I just had the heads and cylinders done. $ 200.00. They were in good shape to start with. Time you pay for is prep, masking, etc.

I have a frame, swing arm, brackets, guards, levers, bolts, totalling 27 pieces, etc in at a powder coater now. I will expect to pay another $ 250.00 or more. I did not do covers. I would expect it would add at least $ 100-150 more.

I degrease everything before taking the parts over. They mask, sand blast, acid etch, powder coat, bake etc.

I have a manual. I dont have the special tools.
The cost of the powder coating is okay.
It's the tear down and re-assembly that I'm worried about.

Get a couple of cans of BBQ grill paint, mask it off and paint it.....and then you can always touch it up when you need to.
