Default Removing forks on Street Glide

The manual seems to imply that the whole fairing needs to be removed to get to the forks. The threads I've read seem to imply that just removing the fairing cap is enough. Which is correct? Can the cap be removed without removing any other part of the fairing?

I've done both ways. the easiest way was to pull fairing and fairing cap and air deflector. But you can with a lil finesse get to the pinch bolts and caps.

Fork lock comes off with the key and a release button underneath. Follow the manual, or search on touring ape hanger installs here as it is part of the process. There's also a tool to use after you have it off to unlock the forks, but I was able to just use the key and lock mech after removing the fairing cap.

I will say working on the front end of a batwing is a lot easier than the shark nose.
