Default Using 07 OEM 96 Cams as upgrade for 88

Hello all, I am preparing to install the Harley Twin Cam Hydraulic Cam Chain Chain Tensioner Upgrade Kit on my 06 FLHXI. I was planning on upgrading the cams as well and a buddy of mine has a like new set of cams out of his 07 FLHX with the 96" says that I can have them to use on my bike. It seems like they should work, and I am more than willing to do it. I decided to ask those more knowledgeable than I.

The Cam part numbers are 25617-07 & 25589-07.

Will it work?

I believe the inner bearing journal is a different size. 88" 7/8 or 3/4, 96" is 1" I believe. Double check that.

Yeah, I see that now. I was able to compare the cams side by side and one end of the 96" cam is larger. Oh well, I tried!!

I installed intake screens on my oil pump while I had my cam plate out.

even if they would have fit, the stock cams out of a TC 96/103 motor aren't good for anything but paperweights. They're short duration smog cams with no overlap. Good for emissions, smooth idle, lousy performance. When they come out of a bike, they should go directly into the trash bin.

Hey Boogaloodude, I agree, just thought I would be better than the cams that were in there already! I see you are in Lake Tapps, I am right down the street in Sumner!!

Hi Neighbor! Hey, if you do decide to do a cam swap, you're welcome to bring your bike over to me. We could knock it out in an afternoon, easy, especially if you're planning on doing the hydraulic cam plate upgrade.
