Default what does a "flash" actually do ?

Hi All,
I know what all the air/fuel ratio gadgets do such as fuelpaks etc but what does a dealer "flash" actually do to my bike ?

Just putting some V&H hi-outputs on my 2012 EG and can't make up my mind whether to go fuelpak or flash.

Thans all.

depending on which version used, the HD download will alter the ECM's response to sensor input.

If just doing pipes, you needn't alter anything.

If also doing hih flow air cleaner, you should look into altering the tuning.

I, like many others, use nightrider.com XIEDS- a $125 solution.

they are resistor packs which plug inline with the o2 sensors, under most riding conditions, they mixture will be made slightly richer.

fuel economy will be less affected than other units- I get about 43 MPG at 65~70 MPH ( and thats a US gallon, just under 4 liters- the UK gallon is 4.55 liters I think)

I only read the title of your thread, and my answer is: puts a big ol' smile on my face!

O.K. I went back and read the whole thread. I think you got some good advice. I started out with the xied's then went with the SEPST tuner and dyno time etc etc. Now you can see below what I'm running. I often think that I should have just stayed with the xied's. But I do love the difference the cams made!

A "flash" actually changes the data stored in (ROM) adresses of the ECM.
These adresses contain target data (shown numerically in table format with most tuners) which the system uses to make your scoot run.

Proper "progamming" will normally help even a completely stock bike.

Before spending the money, you might be better served by understanding what the "Xied" will and won't do.
