Default HARLEY CRUISE CONTROL vs KURYAKYN CRUISE CONTROL ASSIST GRIPS

My next project is to install cruise control on my 2006 Street Glide FLHXI. I was all set to get the HD Cruise Control when I stumbled on the Kuryakan Cruise Control Assist Grips.

Has anyone seen or had experience with both cruises and can help me out with a decision. Works best, DIY installation, etc. thanks.

I don't think the KURYAKYN CRUISE CONTROL ASSIST GRIPS will work like you think they will. It states in the description that only certain features work with certain models. The HD factory model is probably best route for what you expect.

Yes, if I'm going to do it I want a complete auto cruise. I understand the Kuryakyn unit is a magnetic control of the grip; but it does seem to be farely normal from the drivers point of view.

The Harley cruise will keep you at a constant speed, up and down hills.

When I follow someone with a manual cruise control, they drop MPH going up hill and I have to tap out of cruise. A five MPH drop is not uncommon.

A throttle lock is nothing like real cruise control!

I agree.
I wish people would quit saying that they have a cruise control, when all they have is a throttle lock.
It's just one of my pet peeves that really gets under my skin for some reason.

When I had my Softail the upgrade to a cruise control was the reason I started looking at touring bikes.

The '06 street glide cruise PN 77196-04 is readily available and yes expensive at $390 just for kit

PS: Well I have to apologize. I didn't bother to readthe articles when I did a search, just looked at titles. I couldn't actually find one (77196-04) anywhere in the USA. I did find one in England! Looks like my search for a cruise is gotten down to one choice - the Kuryakyn unit. It is increidble to me that Harley has discontinued this unit so soon. A stupid decision that is costing them sales.

Yeah, I ran across the same problem when looking for a system for my '07. This is the only place I found that still offers them and they do it by assembling the kits from individually ordered parts:

For 785 bucks I can live with the throttle lock. Most of my riding is on pretty flat terrain anyway, and I just need to give my right hand a brief rest now and then.

And I agree, it's stupid that HD quit offering it. It would be one thing if these bikes were 20 years old, but dropping this type of support for a 5+/- year old model is nuts.
