....... same here.
..... I was just about ready to install some extended bags and had one of those 'oh ****' events in a buddy's gravel driveway which really drove the 'just in case' motivation to install them.

........ i'd gotten the whole replacement set (incl. wrap-around Nostalgic Bars) for $110 on ebay. Install was simple.

........ i may go to the Comfort Profile later, as these seems these interfere just a bit w/my fat fingers as I go to open the bags.... but that's a insignificant issue if/when they keep the new bags off the ground ... 'just in case'

.................. PS: extra added benefit ....... more chrome !!!

Guys buy StreetGlides and add lowers, tour paks, and rear bag guards. Other guys buy Ultras and remove the lowers, tour paks, and rear bag guards. Go figure!

They do serve more than one purpose.
1) They will help tremendouly on a slow tip over.
2) They will help in having a hand hold when backing up
3) They (along with the engine bars) will keep the bike off your leg if you do crash.

I think the bars look fine on a Street Glide.
I think the rails around the sides don't look good on a Street Glide or those Big Heavy bags people strap on.

Just adding a rear crash bar does not really take away from the minimulist Street Glide look in my opinion? But what do I know.

I put a set of the comfort profile bag guards on my bike. Powdercoated them to match my paint so they are not as noticible. Look if you can see them in my profile pic.

A friend installed a set he got from H-D and the only thing he complained abut was the the bar that goes across the bottom of the bag is black and not chrome.

I bought the SG because I like the clean look. I also like to do parking lot practice and I cried (a lot) when I dropped my bike the first time. There is no way you can drop your bike and not scratch the bags. The scratch is very hard to see, but it is still there and really bugged me.

Sooo, I decided to get the low profile saddlebag guards and have been watching the Parts Sale section of the forum. I have been watching for almost 3 years when I realized that I REALLY hate the saddle bag guards. So I ended up scoring on a couple of lower nice Saddlebags for less than a pair of new Low Profile Guards. When the time comes to sell the bike, I will switch the bags. Untill then, I don't worry about the full lock turns.

I am very happy now.

Anyone have an opinion on looks or whether this is a good purchase?

Thanks for the info!

Sure, why not? I think I'd put the black ones on rather than chrome, but that's just me.

I say get them! They sure saved my bags when I hit a Kamikaze dog at 45 mph last week. I wish the engine guard protected the fairing a little better.

Just some road dust on the bags.
