I have to agree that Harley manuals have led me astray more than once, which forces me to ask questions. Also, many folks here have an easier approach to specific fixes like brakes and changing fork oil. BUT, a good forum member should get a maintenance manual to keep the manual police off their back.

Default Pardon me

but I couldn't help but notice after reading most of the comments but is it common practice for a few of y'all here to side track the OP that clearly stated his bike was a 2000 model thus all these talks about newer models which call for more oil as being useless for his situation... people have different engines but it seems helpful if the answers were dealing with his situation and not someone else... I know the thread is 5 years old but my 2001 came out 16 years ago and I don't mind reading the threads that come up with answers I need... I just found it funny that the replies went off the road and talking mixing them up with 32 oz, 38 oz, and a few others... so pardon me if I brought up an old thread back up but it's a issue that we all still deal with, changing oil...
my question on this is, is redline primary oil a good product and if the required amount is more than the bottle of 32oz, would topping off with 20w50 a few oz be a bad thing or do I need to buy another redline.... or simply just put Lucas 20w50 synthetic oil in all three, crankcase, tranny, and primary... thanks

I wouldn't use the same oil in all three holes. The MoCo has been using three different specs since the dawn of time and my Harleys have been fine on them for the last 40+ years!

I would be surprised if you need more oil than the manual says, however I always fill to the specified level, I don't pour in a fixed quantity. Redline is a well known brand, although I have never used it.

One quart gives me that red line if I drain over night or take all apart. I usely don't pull the round cover as less screws with inspection cover.
