Default 2011 Ultra Limited Running HOT

I've ridden alot of harley ultras before....
But just got a 2011 Ultra LImited which has a 103" motor & an oil cooler

I was riding the bike today and yesterday and there seems to be an excessive amount of engine heat coming off of it.... even in 70 degree weather last night it was much hotter than my 2006 would be on my leg and even uncomfortable for me and my passenger

Any suggestions?

It will cool down some when it is broken in and put synthetic engine oil in. You can also get a tuner and cool it down some also. When I first bought my Limited with 103, I remember thinking how hot it was. It was in March and the motor was running very hot. It would go into the killing back cylinder mode ever time you stopped for over a minute. It didn't take long to get to the 1000 mile service and changed to synthetic. It has only gone into the Etms mode only once since then and it was in 95 degree weather sitting in Pigeon Forge traffic last summer.

The 88's never had the heat problems the 96/103 bikes do. Leaner fuel maps to meet emissions, catalytic converters, and bigger motors all contribute to the issue. Get a good stage I tune, get rid of the cat and it will feel like a different bike.

+1 on pretty much everthing that's been said so far. When the 1k service was done and the syn3 was put in that helped a good amount. I also got a cat-less header pipe from American Customs when I was at Daytona Bike Week in March. Between those things and the stage 1 the bike is running significantly cooler and I agree that you will feel a difference if you do your stage 1 and richen up, get your 1k service, and get rid of the cat.

I changed out the head pipe to fuel moto 2-1-2 to get rid of the converter, new air cleaner and power vision tuner. Bike runs cooler and gets about 41-43 mpg now.

Mine got slightly louder but didn't even come close to the obnoxious range. I noticed it was a deeper, more throaty sound but not a lot louder. I can still cruise and listen to my stereo without a problem.
