Default Starter gear stripped should i change it with a 66tooth

Hi,

Well i have only been able to put about 200 miles on my harley. My starter died on me. So i removed the cover and noticed that the clutch basket had about three teeth missing on it. The best option for me is to get the primo starter ring and just drill out the rivets. They have a kit that converts it to a 66 tooth instead of a 102 starter gear with a 9 pinion gear. here is the link http://www.jpcycles.com/product/630-934 I guess u get more torque out of it. Will the 9t pinion gear fit on my starter? Would you guys recommend changing it out to the 66 tooth one?

Also on a side note im looking for a starter for a flhpi 2000 road king police. I called the dealer adn they would not tell me the part number for the starter unless i bought it through them. Are they the same as the regular road kings? I am looking for a comparable aftermarket one.

Thanks

You can go here for a parts list. Add to cart and select check out to see P/N.

I changed mine out to a 66 tooth because of same reason,by going to a smaller ring gear you are making it more difficult for your starter. Most people will also upgrade the starter to a 1.4 or bigger
