Question HD valve stem extension leaks air

I bought the HD valve stem extension hose 42300009. When I screwed it onto the tire valve, air started coming out the other end of the hose! I used a valve stem tool on the other end of the hose and found the valve stem was loose so I tightened it just enough to stop the air from escaping. But the valve stem is now too far in for an air pressure gauge to press it for a reading.

Has anyone had similar issues with this valve stem extension hose?
Did I get a defective one?
Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Take it back, for a refund/ exchange. I have used mine about 5 times. No problems with it leaking.

Same here, I just put it in the reject pile until I get back to the dealer.

Just wait until you replace your tire then put a 90 degree valve stem on.

OK thanks everyone. I have one of those small cheapo air compressors with a built-in gauge and a flip-lock connector on the hose stowed away somewhere. I don't use it much. I think I'll use that with the valve extension hose. The flip-lock connector should stop the air from coming out of the valve extension hose and I can get an air pressure reading from the gauge and flip the switch to put air in if need be. The valve extension hose may provide some value after all. Thanks again.

+1 on the angled valve stems. Had one installed on the front when that tire was warrantied due to cupping and the one for the back is in the bag for the day that the rear tire gets replaced.
