Question Transmission Fluid Leak

My wife's bike has trans fluid leaking down the clutch cable. I tightened everything up I could think of and it still leaks. It's not a lot but enough to be an issue. We did have new bars put on a couple of years ago with a longer clutch cable if that helps.

Any ideas?

I just had the same problem. I bought the bike second hand, knowing there was a very minor oil leak. After cleaning, and a lot of searching this forum, I traced it back to where the Clutch cable goes into the tranny. The last person that owned the bike, had put apes/cables on. I tightened it up, but still leaked a little. I pulled it apart, and replaced the oring. That solved it. Hasnt leaked since.

cheers,
kyle

Doesnt matter, they are all the same design unless you have a hydraulic clutch. Its either leaking as said thru the o ring, thats easy to see if there is fluid coming out between the trans case and cable end. Or it could be a bad swedge when they made the cable, where fluid would be coming out between the cable housing and the swedged metal end that goes into the housing.
My 07 is the latter and has been doing it since it was about a year old.

1.) check the tranny end cover bolts, the revised torque spec is 25 ft lbs.- esp the lower 2 bolts which on many models support the exhaust. ( this is quite common) the allens can be tightened by using a 1/4" drive screwdriver bit- put the bit in the allen head butt end first.
then turn the bit with a open end wrench.)

2.) check the tranny vent, mud dauber wasps have been know to clog this up...the pressure has no where to go but push past a seal. ( so leaks when running/ dry when parked)

3.) and as above, clutch cable seal or the clutch cable itself

oh and to track down the source of a seep, spray the suspect area with drugstore spray on foot powder.
the seep will wash it away

Thanks guys, it sounds like either the o-ring or the swedge which in that case a new cable is in order I assume.
