Default Need to reposition my ignition switch plate.

My ignition switch plate has moved foward and I would like to get it where it should be and have it laying nice and flat. I have my service manual in front of me and it says to turn the bars all the way to the fork lock position remove the chrome **** and then turn bars all the way to the right before removing the 7/8 nut, collar and spacer that holds the switch position plate in place. I watched a video on ignition switch removal and it says if you turn the bars after the **** is removed it will cause things to be out of alignment. I found another set of instructions that says to have the bars to the right when removing the **** and there is no mention of turning the bars to the left in the fork lock position.I don't have the special alignment tool and I don't want to make one so my question is can I just start out with the bars all the way to the right then pop of the chrome **** then remove the 7/8 nut so I can access the switch plate? Anyone else had problems with their switch plate moving around? Mine did it after running high RPM's for a lot of miles on a road trip. Thanks for your comments.

With the bars in the locked position, you can remove the nut
And reposition the plate.
Then reassemble.

if all you are doing is moving the switch plate, then you're making this more difficult than it needs to be. i have had my switch off a few times and have not had the handlebars full left/right etc. as long as you don't move anything, you'll be okay. just pop it out, reposition the plate, then put it back in.

I took off the chrome ****, spacer and nut today without any problems. Once I got that off I could see that the switch plate just lays there. I wasn't able to move the plate back because the ignition switch shaft seems to be just a touch to far forward. I'm thinking this is going to be a rainy day project so I put everything back together.I will have to look in my service manual and see if there is anyway to adjust that ignition switch shaft. My other option is to file the switch plate opening so I can move it back where it should be.

I had the same problem with my ign plate , when I swapped to 1 1/4 bars I had them pushed to far forward. I rolled the bars down a bit and got rid of those rubber grommets on the sides of the lower fairing cap.

Well it looked like it was going to rain today so I pulled the fairing cap off. I removed a couple of imperfections from my fairing cap and repainted it. If I'm satisfied after it dries I will put it back together and see if I can make the ignition plate fit better. I guess I shouldn't be so picky but I am.
